We proceed north crossing into Northern Ireland, an important part of the United Kingdom where the primary religion is Protestantism and their currency is that of the United Kingdom which is the pound sterling.
We then travel by boat east to the Island of Great Britain (which is the countries of England, Wales and Scotland) back into England before proceeding north to Scotland. The religion in Scotland is Protestantism and their currency is the pound sterling.

On our way to York, England, we stopped in the small village of Alnwick where is also located the Alnwick Castle. This castle is still privately occupied. We did not have a chance to visit, so this is another location to which I would like to return some day. This castle is also used for summer school for the University of Minnesota!! This site has also been used for 3 Harry Potter movies!
I only found 1 ice cream shop in this village!

Lunch in Newcastle Upon Tyne
We were in a hurry to get to York, so we stopped at a highway center for a quick lunch. I had KFC, the firsst time inyears! This is the first American food I've had on the trip and the first KFC in years!
What a city if York! I do want to return to this site. One reason is because they have so many diverse ice cream places. But the biggest reason is because I do want to see the inside of the York Minister.
Ed gave is a walking 45-minute tour of the old city. It is spectacular...so many skinny, secret passage ways with coblestone, etc. There are some buildings here that were created in the 1200s. I would like to spend a couple days here!

Visit the Hadrian Wall
Who knows what else has been filmed here as shown by a local gallery!
This next stop was a large goal for me to see on this trip...it was a stop at the Hadrian's Wall.
I do teach this in the classroom. When the Romans occupied the island of what is today Great Britain, they did encounter the Scotts and Vikings. The Romans did not like these people, and so decided to build a large wall from one end of the island to the other! This was 110 miles and became known as The Hadrian Wall (based on who was in charge when this wall was built). When the Roman Empire collapsed, most of the wall was dismantled...this segment in the village of Heddo is the longest part of the Hadrian Wall still standing.
This barrier was not just a simple wall. It was built in several segments with a moat on one side and many soldiers stationed the entire way!
This "circle" is a mark put on the wall to mark the "mile" mark...these marks were placed on the wall every 1-mile.
In this square is where they used to do the hangings or guillotine to your neck. So this "The Last Drop Inn" was the last place you might want to be before you're gone!
This is where one of the secret passages will take you...a place people will have their parties, etc.
This is where cats were placed on top of buildings to scare away the birds, mice, etc.

Of course, gargoyles are there to be keep the evil spirits out and to vent for water!
We now had some free time, so I returned to the Shambles Market and street.
I returned to this spot...look at their flavors!!
What a city to which to return!!! York!
We then returned to our coach so we could check-in at our hospital!
